Monitoring Wells
SNAPSHOTS OF INDIANA GROUNDWATER RESOURCES
Groundwater monitoring wells observed aquifer recharge for most of the state did not start until January 2024. Only LAKE 13 [5] and JEFFERSON 5 [2] monitoring wells observed aquifer recharge starting in the fall (October for both). Groundwater levels declined through January for KNOX 7 [3], Tippecanoe County [6] and Wayne County [7]. The water table in LAGRANGE 2 [4] recovered a little in October, but did not experience substantial recharge before January. Well at [2] and [5] ended the year 1 ft and 1/2 ft below the start of year water levels, respectively. Well at [4] and [7] ended the year with increases in water table depths of 1/2 ft and 2 ft, respectively. The other monitored wells ended the year at about the same water level that they started. Four of the wells, [2], [3], [4] and [5] appeared to be refilling at the end of the water year, while the other county monitoring wells were still decreasing.
The following figures are daily observed groundwater levels for the previous water year.
