Consumers with excellent diets find it significantly easier to determine food healthiness from packaging compared to those with poor diets, according to the May 2025 Consumer Food Insights Survey from the Center for Food Demand Analysis & Sustainability. While 83 percent of consumers rating their diet as excellent find it very or somewhat easy to assess food healthiness from packaging, only 44 percent of those with poor diets report the same ease.
These findings highlight a critical need for simpler, more accessible nutritional information on food packaging to inform all consumers. Recent policy changes from the FDA regarding the use of a “healthy” label on food packaging may be a step in the right direction. View the complete survey report.
