LInking Z to Working Distance in SEM

Linking the z-axis of the stage to the working distance of the electron beam is the method used by Thermo Scientific SEMs to:

  1. Protect the microscope from accidental contact between the sample and the pole piece.
  2. Make optimization of working distance easier.
