Electron probe microanalyzer

On Friday, June 5th, we had a momentous occasion in the PEMC.  Christopher Gilpin signed off the JEOL electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) as fully installed and functional!  Dave Boruch worked hard to make sure the JXA-iHP200F met all specifications and we are thrilled to now officially own our first EPMA.  
 
As our resident EPMA expert, Kuan-Yu Lin has been patiently waiting since he was hired to have this new toy at his fingertips, and has already started diving into learning the ins and outs of the instrument.

New Staff in 2026

Fully Staffed is worth celebrating!  For the first time since our consolidation in 2022, the Purdue Electron Microscopy Center is fully staffed.  A big welcome to our two newest staff members, Aurianna Bastin and Donaldo Carrillo!  

We are wonderfully optimistic about the future with (hopefully) enough staff to keep up with our high demand for training, sample prep, and assisted use on the microscopes.  Thank you also to all of our users who have been patient with us over the last year of growing pains with ever-growing wait times.  We are eager to improve your experience in our center and are excited about our path forward.

Giant leap to Indianapolis

The Purdue Electron Microscopy Center is taking our next giant leap down to the Purdue Indianapolis campus, and bringing an SEM with us!  Our Hitachi S-4800 FEG SEM moved down to the Indy campus in February.  We are very excited to be able to support Indy campus research and would like to thank Nikhilesh Chawla and Babak Anasori for their support in this move.
