Coming soon - cryo fib on the Helios

The installation of the cryo FIB on the Helios has begun!  Step one was to install the EasyLift cryo nanomanipulator from Thermo Scientific.  That has been completed, and now, we are waiting with bated breath for the installation of our second cryo transfer system.  The Quorum cryo transfer system allows samples to be flash frozen in slushed nitrogen, fractured, and sputter coated with platinum all within the cooled transfer system.  Unlike the cryo system on the Apreo in WSLR, this new cryo system will have the capability to tilt and rotate the stage to enable cryo FIB and lamella lift out.

Stay tuned for more updates!

New Equipment - (S)TEM on Apreo 2S

A new (S)TEM detector has been installed on the Apreo 2S in WSLR thanks to Alex Laskin, who was awarded the funds from the Office of Research equipment fund.  As part of this funding, we will also be upgrading the Aztec EDX software to include "AztecFeature," which is used for particle analysis.  Read more about AztecFeature here

Thanks to Alex Laskin's decision to place this equipment within the PEMC, all users can benefit from this new capability.  Read more about Dr. Laskin's research on his research group's website here.

The PEMC is now on LinkedIn!
