Golf Course Maintenance Internship - Crow Valley Golf Club
Course History & Overview
Crow Valley Golf Club is a private 18-hole course located in Davenport, Iowa—just 4 miles from the Mississippi River. Designed by John N. Cochran in 1969, Crow Valley has a rich history, including hosting the original Quad Cities Open (now the John Deere Classic) and several local and state championships such as the 2022 Iowa Amateur and 2024 U.S. Open Local Qualifier.
The course spans over 150 acres and plays 6,700 yards featuring bentgrass greens, tees and fairways with added native grass areas around the perimeter of the property. Though the golf course has been upheld to premier conditioning, it is starting a long-term master plan, through design of architect Michael Benkusky, that includes 7 new green complex’s, reshaping tee boxes, a complete bunker redesign and all new irrigation system which is scheduled to be completed by winter of 2026. Following completion of Phase 1, the club will initiate the planning process for Phase 2 which shall include rebuilding the rest of the greens as well as adding drainage throughout the golf course.

Intern Experiences
“My internship at Crow Valley is an experience that will stay with me throughout my career. I learned and grew tremendously, gaining hands-on experience and developing skills I never imagined I would have the opportunity to learn on a golf course. The support and teaching from Tim and Levi made the experience especially valuable. They challenged us to think critically, asked questions that encouraged us to expand our knowledge, and made sure we understood the purpose behind our work. I always felt supported, valued, and given opportunities to learn something new. The experience and knowledge I gained here will be a tremendous advantage as I move forward in my career.” - Nick Krambeer, 2026 – Kirkwood Community College
“The internship was very educational and gave me the opportunity to be involved in almost every aspect of the golf course. I was able to learn much more than just mowing, including irrigation and spraying, topdressing, and many other important parts of golf course maintenance. Overall, I thought it was a great internship where I was well taken care of, and I really enjoyed learning from and working alongside the other people on the crew.” - Cole Boucher, 2026 – Iowa State University
“Interning at Crow Valley was a jump start for me and extremely influential for my career. Tim and Levi did a great job of providing hands-on experience and knowledge. If it weren’t for my internship at Crow Valley, I would be nowhere near the student and worker that I am today. From moisture management, to learning how to run a boom sprayer, to irrigation and drainage fixes, my internship at Crow Valley opened my eyes to everything behind the scenes of a great golf course. They invested a lot of time and effort into helping me and I will forever be grateful for that experience. - Drew Micek, 2024 – Mississippi State University
