Internship Posting: Escondido Golf and Lake Club

My name is Clay Johnston, and I serve as the Director of Agronomy at Escondido Golf & Lake Club in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. I wanted to reach out regarding potential turfgrass internship opportunities in 2026.

Next year will be an especially exciting and educational time at Escondido as we begin a large-scale golf course restoration project. The course will be closed from May 1 through October 1, providing a unique opportunity for interns to gain hands-on experience in both day-to-day agronomics and major construction management.

The scope of work includes:

  • Complete greens reset, stripping the top 3 to 4 inches of existing putting surfaces and regrassing with Mach 1 bermudagrass
  • Core out of green complexes (6 inch depth), followed by sand capping and regrassing with new zoysia varieties
  • Full bunker renovation across all holes with Capillary Concrete and Bunker Solutions liners
  • Tee box renovation and releveling throughout the course

This project will give students an invaluable learning experience that spans the full spectrum of golf course management, from agronomic practices and grow-in procedures to large-scale construction coordination and project execution.

We are very interested in partnering with your program and providing students with an opportunity to be part of a comprehensive and professionally managed restoration effort. If you have any students who may be interested, I would appreciate the chance to connect or provide additional details about the position, housing availability, and schedule.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.
