Dr. Jung Sung

Postdoctoral Researcher

Dr. Jung Sung is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Animal Science at North Carolina State University, following the completion of his Ph.D. in the Department of Animal Sciences at Purdue University and his B.S. and M.S. at Konkuk University in South Korea. His research focuses on swine and poultry nutrition, with an emphasis on precision nutrition and nutritional intervention to improve intestinal health without the use of antibiotics. The objective of his research program is to 1) maximize growth performance of animals and 2) promote environmental sustainability while advancing animal and human health, aligned with the One Health framework.

Although optimizing animal nutrition has traditionally focused on improving animals’ weight gain and feed efficiency, the increasing emphasis on One Health now demands a broader approach that integrates environmental sustainability with animal and human health. To address these challenges, Dr. Sung’s research vision is to develop precision nutrition and nutritional interventions to improve the intestinal health of swine and poultry by integrating both classical and advanced nutrition.
