Thinking about graduating soon?
If you are thinking about graduating in the next year, there are some things you need to consider.
- Meet with your academic advisor to be sure you will meet all graduation requirements:
- 120 credits
- 32 credits at the 300-level or higher
- complete all required courses
- Let your advisor and the undergraduate program coordinator know about any minors or second majors you are pursuing.

What will your next step be?
Will you be searching for a job or furthering your education? Do you need to prepare a resume and buy a suit or study up for the GREs or MCATs? Do you have faculty and professionals in the field to write letters of reference for you?
Entering the workforce?
- Center for Career Opportunities - Explore your career options, get help on your job search skills, or schedule an on-campus interview.
- Online Writing Lab (OWL) - Learn how to write an effective resume or cover letter.
- Attend Career Fairs on campus to meet with employers and learn about opportunities, including the Ag Career Fair in October.
- Search websites of employers you might like to work for to see what opportunities are available.
Applying for Vet School at Purdue?
- You need to have met all the pre-veterinary medicine course requirements.
- Review the admissions process timeline.
- Consider the admissions evaluation criteria.
- Take the GRE (Graduate Record Examination)
- Apply by October 1 using VMCAS (Veterinary Medical College Application Service).
Applying for Medical School?
- Be sure you will meet all the pre-medicine course requirements (vary by school).
- Be able to demonstrate your sincere interest in health care by observing/shadowing a physician and performing service/volunteer activities related to medicine.
- Get advice from the Center for Pre-Professional Advising
- Take the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test)
- Apply early! Most schools admit on a rolling basis, meaning you have a better chance of getting in the sooner you apply. Plan to submit your application by June-August of the year before you want to enter medical school. (Example - apply in July 2013 for fall 2014). Most medical schools use the AMCAS (American Medical College Application Service).
Applying for Graduate School?
- Investigate websites of universities with graduate programs that interest you. Programs with rotations are generally preferable, and as a rule of thumb, the number of faculty that you are interested in working with should be at least equal to the number of rotations.

- Take the GRE (Graduate Record Examination)
- Submit your application by the deadline (varies by school).
