COLUMBIAN PARK ZOO JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Location: Lafayette, IN

Seasonal Zookeeper (40 hours per week):
Responsible for providing proper care and treatment to Zoo animals. Maintains a healthy environment for animals by feeding, watering, cleaning cages and runways and monitoring animals for signs of ill health or disease. Assists in training of new employees and/or volunteers and interns as needed. Performs general maintenance of the Zoo such as painting, trash removal, and landscaping. Assists with operating Zoo amusement rides, ensuring public safety and quality customer service. Engages with the public on a daily basis.

Seasonal Zoo Landscaper (20-40 hours per week):
Responsible for general maintenance of the Zoo grounds, including planting, watering, weeding, pruning, mulching, raking, digging, shoveling, and sweeping. Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Assists with various volunteer groups and provides brief informational programs on plant related topics for Zoo patrons.

Zoo Educator (40 hours per week):
Responsible for planning, implementing and presenting educational programming for a variety of audiences, including animal handling and training. Directs assigned staff/volunteers and program participants, including youth. Incumbent also performs routine housekeeping and record-keeping duties, including compiling, filing and handling registration materials.

Seasonal Zoo Camp Manager (40 hours per week):
Assists with the supervision and operation of various camps and other programs for Columbian Park Zoo. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment for all participants. Responsible for planning, implementing and presenting educational programming for a variety of audiences, including animal handling and training. Actively participate in the development of Zoo Camp curriculum. Assist in the promotion of Zoo Camps and other Zoo initiatives. Assist in the interviewing, training, supervising and coaching of camp counselors and interns. Lead seasonal staff and volunteers in planning and preparing camp activities and programs.

Seasonal Zoo Gift Shop Clerk (20-40 hours per week):
Responsible for assisting with the operation of the Zoo’s gift shop and amusement rides. Operates gift shop POS system and assists customers with questions and purchases. Controls and operates amusement rides, ensuring public safety. Performs minor maintenance duties and maintains cleanliness of rides areas and gift shop.
