COMMUNICATIONS INTERN (SUMMER 2026)
Location: Indianapolis, IN (Hybrid)
Position Dates: June 1 – August 7, 2026 (Flexible)
Schedule: 20 hrs/week (Monday-Friday, daytime)
Compensation: $4,000 total stipend (10-week internship)
The Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (IASWCD) is a member-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to enabling the conservation of Indiana’s natural resources. We support and strengthen Indiana’s Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) through leadership, coordination, and education statewide.
This project-focused internship expands communications services for our members while providing hands-on professional experience in nonprofit communications, agriculture, and environmental outreach.
The Communications Intern provides project and communications support to IASWCD staff, working closely with the Director of Communication and Member Programs. This role offers experience in content development, storytelling, digital media, event communications, and nonprofit outreach strategy.
Responsibilities
- Assist with IASWCD conservation awards programs
- Design graphics, brochures, and promotional materials
- Create content for social media platforms
- Write scripts and conduct interviews for short-form videos
- Take photos and support communications at IASWCD/partner events
- Draft partner updates and newsletters
- Develop creative strategies to promote IASWCD and local Soil and Water Conservation Districts
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- Currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid driver’s license
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Canva (Adobe is a plus)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Dependable in a hybrid work environment
- Team-oriented and collaborative
Preferred:
- Interest or coursework in communications, agriculture, natural resources, environmental science, public relations, or related field
- Experience in graphic design and writing articles or digital content
