Horticulturalist

Location: Indianapolis, IN
Compensation: $60,000+

Horticulturists are responsible for supporting horticultural operations by managing the health, growth and care of OEG plant materials. Utilizing skills in pest management and plant health care. This position also involves the study of plants, conducting research, complete diagnostic reports and collecting data, timely visits to client's properties and caring for their landscape plants by managing, monitoring and diagnosing disease and cultural issues, applying appropriate products and treatments needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Study plants and their characteristics, qualities, processes, relationships, classification, etc
  • Conduct research on the genetics, evolution, physiology on plant materials
  • Understand the effect of the weather, pollution, drought, and pests on different plant species
  • Gather data for various research
  • Maintain greenhouses and client environments where plants are living
  • Collect specimens of plants, mosses, and fungi for additional research
  • Identify and diagnose pest and plant diseases, ensuring environmental conditions are healthy and apply appropriate treatment methods
  • Install and manage healthy ornamental plants
  • Assist with landscape property care, seasonal installs and enhancements
  • Provide plant care guidance to team members and clients
  • Educate and supervise team members on best plant health treatments and practices

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Indiana Applicators License 3A and/or 3B Pesticide License preferred
  • Certification through the ASHA desired
  • 5+ years of experience in the landscape industry
  • 3+ years of experience in Horticulture or plant health care
  • Valid Drivers license
  • Must be comfortable working outside in various weather conditions
  • Very organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently with a positive attitude

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arboriculture, Horticulture, Plant Science or equivalent experience of 5+ years
