Lead Gardener

Location: Indianapolis, IN
Compensation: $23/hr
Position Type: Full-time

At Spotts Garden Service, we cultivate people’s most intimate green spaces -their gardens. Our team shapes custom gardens into interactive, functional, healthy, and beautiful places for the people who live in them.

We are seeking a Lead Gardener who not only maintains exceptional gardens, but mentors, teaches, and develops the next generation of gardeners. This is not a mowing or basic landscaping role. This is horticulture-centered, client-focused, and leadership-driven gardening.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and execute maintenance gardening on assigned properties
• Lead a crew through full-day shifts (10+ hours)
• Delegate tasks, manage time, and ensure high-quality work
• Mentor and train less-experienced gardeners in the field
• Adapt garden plans in real time to improve plant health and design
• Communicate directly with clients when appropriate
• Collaborate with leadership on plant additions and design edits

Qualifications:

• At least 1 year of professional gardening experience
• Experience leading crews through full-day shifts
• Strong knowledge of plant identification, pruning, and garden maintenance
• Ability to read a garden design and prioritize work
• Valid driver’s license with clean record
• Comfortable driving trucks (trailer experience preferred; training available)
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs
• Seeking full-time, long-term employment
