Name that Tree and ID that Wood
The Indiana Hardwood Lumbermen’s Association (IHLA) presents the Name that Tree and ID that Wood event.
Objective:
Hands-on experience in identifying local hardwood species of trees when looking at bark, leaves, and twigs (including an overview of common invasive plants). Practice distinguishing and identifying wood from these trees. Learn about the importance of Midwest hardwoods as a fascinating carbon-sequestering material (by Lenny Farlee and Eva Haviarova). Speakers:
Lenny Farlee – I have a Bachelors and Masters Degrees in forest management from Purdue University. I have worked as a seedling nursery forester and private lands forester for the Indiana Division of Forestry and have been an extension forester for the Hardwood Tree Improvement and Regeneration Center at Purdue University since 2007.
Eva Haviarova is a Professor of Wood Science at Purdue University. She is responsible for teaching, research, and extension in wood products. Her work focuses on adding value to hardwood, developing new products, and promoting wood as one of the most sustainable biomaterials. She also works with the wood products industry.
