A Clean Sweep: Broomcorn for Organic Transition
Join Purdue Extension, the Indiana Organic Network, and the team at Bundle Sticks Farm for an engaging field day focused on a unique and increasingly valuable crop—broomcorn. Titled “A Clean Sweep: Broomcorn for Organic Transition,” this hands-on event will take place on August 10, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. ET in Lanesville, Indiana.
Hosted by the farmers and crafters at Bundle Sticks Farm, the field day will introduce participants to broomcorn, a distinctive variety of Sorghum bicolor used in traditional broom-making. Attendees will learn how this high-value crop can play a key role in transitioning farmland to organic production, while also supporting domestic supply chains for craft materials.
This event is designed for small-scale producers, individuals exploring organic transition, and crafters interested in the intersection of agriculture and artisan production. Participants will gain insights into how broomcorn fits into crop rotations, its production benefits, and its role in sustainable farming systems.
