2025 NCWSS Weeds Contest

Purdue Weed Science Team Wins Big at the North Central Weed Science Society Student Weed Contest

The North Central Weed Science Society Student Weed Contest took place on Thursday July 31 in Seymour, IL. Students competed in one Team Calibration section and four individual sections: Unknown Herbicide ID, Written Calibration, Weed ID, and Field Problem Solving. 12 Purdue graduate students, making up 3 teams, competed at the contest.

 Purdue Gold team members were Alex Mueth (Dr. Bryan Young), Jada Davis (Dr. Bryan Young), Estevan Cason (Dr. Bill Johnson), and Maria Souza (Dr. Tommy Butts). Purdue Gray team members were Grant Isaacs (Dr. Bryan Young), Emma Lagerhausen (Dr. Bryan Young), Abi Norsworthy (Dr. Bryan Young), and Jessie Lewis (Dr. Bryan Young). Purdue Black team members were Emmanuel Cooper (Dr. Tommy Butts), Celia Corado (Dr. Stephen Meyers, HLA), Helen Nocito (Dr. Stephen Meyers, HLA), and Nicolle Salamanca (Dr. Stephen Meyers, HLA).

Alex Mueth (Dr. Bryan Young) won the Unknown Herbicide ID section. Additionally, Alex placed 1^st overall with 301 points.

Maria Souza (Dr. Tommy Butts) placed 2^nd overall with 297 points. 

Jada Davis (Dr. Bryan Young) won the Field Problem Solving section and placed 3^rd overall with 285 points. 

Purdue Gray team placed 3^rd out of 21 graduate teams with 917 total team points. 

Purdue Gold team placed 1^st out of 21 graduate teams with 1,011 total team points.
