Description:  

 

The Stevens Lab in the Department of Natural Resources Management at Texas Tech University is searching for a postdoctoral research scientist to investigate ecomorphology and ecology/evolution of bats, in particular using morphometric, distribution and environmental data to better understand gradients of biodiversity.  There will be ample opportunity for the postdoc to also address their own interesting questions within this collaboration.  More generally, the responsibilities of the postdoc will be to analyze large morphometric, spatial and/or temporal datasets and to write manuscripts and proposals.  The position will begin 1 September 2026, and is a 12-month, full-time, fixed term position with reappointment contingent on satisfactory performance.  Funding for the position is available for two years with additional years obtained through grants.

 

Responsibilities:  

 

 More generally, the responsibilities of the postdoc will be to analyze large morphometric, spatial and/or temporal datasets and to write manuscripts and proposals.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

 

 

Ph.D. received within the last 5 years or a graduate student who has successfully completed all requirements for a Ph.D. but has not actually received a diploma. In this situation the applicant must present evidence of completion of the degree requirements accompanied by a statement from the degree granting university documenting the expected date when the degree is to be conferred.


Experience with traditional and/or landmark approaches to characterize phenotypic variation.  Knowledge of GIS and use of GIS software for data visualization and spatial analysis.  Ability to use statistical software (e.g., R) to perform advanced data analysis (e.g., general linear models, mixed models, multivariate analysis, joint-species distribution modelling). Ability to lead the design, execution, and communication of research with little supervision.  Desire and ability to mentor both graduate and undergraduate students in morphometric research.
