Wean-to-Finish Hog Barn Technician

Meadow Lane Farms is a family-operated wean-to-finish swine operation focused on animal welfare,
efficiency, and continuous improvement. We take pride in maintaining a clean, well-run facility and
holding a high standard of care and accountability. We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented individual to assist in the daily operation of a wean-to-finish hog facility. This role focuses on animal care, facility management, and regulatory compliance, and plays a direct role in livestock performance and barn efficiency. We are looking for someone who shows up consistently, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and holds themselves to a high standard.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily care and monitoring of pigs from weaning through market weight
  • Walk pens to identify sick or injured animals and administer treatments as needed
  • Follow herd health protocols and maintain accurate treatment records
  • Receive and properly place incoming pigs into barns
  • Assist with power washing and disinfecting of center rooms and breezeways (majority of full barn cleanouts are completed by a hired crew)
  • Monitor and manage feed systems, waterers, ventilation, and temperature controls
  • Maintain records required for IDEM compliance (manure management, mortality, etc.)
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of barn systems (including electrical components and minor welding repairs)
  • Ensure strict adherence to biosecurity protocols
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Assist with scheduling of cleaning and maintenance
  • Communicate supply needs with suppliers

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk barns for extended periods daily (2–5+ miles per day)
  • Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs regularly
  • Ability to push, pull, and move heavy objects
  • Must be capable of dragging up to 300 lbs for distances up to 50 feet
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, humid, and dusty conditions
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and climbing

Qualifications:

  • Prior livestock experience preferred (swine experience a plus, but not required)
  • Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Basic welding ability (stick or MIG preferred) for routine repairs and light fabrication work
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
  • Attention to detail, especially in animal observation and record keeping
  • Valid driver’s license (required)
  • All tools and equipment are provided

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: $45,000 – $48,000 annually (based on experience)
