Largest Ever Attendance for Purdue Plant Science Symposium

Earlier this month, Purdue students from a number of departments in the College of Agriculture hosted the Purdue Plant Science Symposium. The symposium, sponsored by Corteva Agriscience, has been held since 2015. This year drew in the largest registration numbers for the event, with over 150 people in attendance.

The theme for this year's symposium was "Planting the Digital Seed: The Computer's Influence on Plant Science". A number of speakers were invited from both within and outside of Purdue, and were challenged to talk about how changes in technology helped advance their research, or opened doors to new insights.

A poster competition also took place, with students submitting their presentations into either Digital or General research categories. The winners of both categories came from the Department of Agronomy - as did the winner for Overall Undergraduate poster.

  • Digital: 1st - Ana Morales Ona (Agronomy)  /  2nd - Vera Vukovic (Horticulture & Landscape Architecture)
  • General: 1st - Krista Zapata (Agronomy)  /  2nd - Wily Sic (Botany & Plant Pathology)
  • Overall Undergraduate: Bruno Paulus Scheffer (Agronomy)

With a new Phenotyping Greenhouse on the way, this marks an exciting time for Plant Sciences at Purdue.
