Considering a Change of Degree Objective to Animal Sciences?
We're glad you're here! The Department of Animal Sciences (ANSC) is home to a vibrant community of students who are passionate about domestic animals, science and the future of agriculture. Whether you're exploring new interests or planning a shift in your academic and career goals, this page will guide you through the CODO process and help you determine if ANSC is the right fit for you.
What do ansc classes look like?
Most ANSC courses combine animal biology with hands-on, applied learning focused on domestic farm animals like cattle, swine, poultry, sheep, goats and horses. You’ll take foundational classes such as animal nutrition, physiology, genetics and animal production, along with labs and activities at the Animal Sciences Research and Education Center (ASREC) or the Land O' Lakes Center for Experiential Learning.
You’ll also complete supporting science courses in biology, chemistry and biochemistry, plus upper-level ANSC electives tailored to your interests (animal behavior, welfare, reproduction, livestock management, biosciences or agribusiness).
Overall, expect a mix of classroom learning, real-world livestock experience and flexible electives that let you explore the areas of animal science that interest you most.
