Cooling pads to reduce heat stress in sows and boars. Cooling pads can remove excess heat from boars and sows under high environmental temperatures. Swine Schinckel, Allan 2024
Shell Egg Academy Education program for egg production quality and safety Poultry Karcher, Darrin 2024
Muscle gain and loss in dairy cattle Dairy cows mobilize a considerable amount of skeletal muscle in the first month of lactation but do not appreciably gain skeletal muscle until late lactation. Dairy Cattle Boerman, Jackie 2024
Using cameras to assess dairy cattle diet uniformity Image analysis from video collected of the diet mixing process can differentiate well- and poorly-mixed diets. Dairy Cattle Boerman, Jackie 2024
Breeding pigs for improved heat tolerance Genomic selection is a very effective tool for improving heat tolerance in pigs in the face of climate change. Swine Brito, Luiz 2024
Developing sustainable dairy cattle breeding programs There are many welfare, behavior, resilience, and productive efficiency traits that can be derived for breeding purposes based on the integration of data from precision technologies and genomic information. Dairy Cattle Brito, Luiz 2024
Technologies to reduce the use of antibiotics in food animal production Phage-based treatments effectively prevent fowl typhoid and colibacillosis in broilers. Poultry Ebner, Paul 2024
Assessing food awareness among food handlers and consumers in the Dominican Republic Assessing food awareness among food handlers and consumers in the Dominican Republic: A behavior theory approach. Food Safety Ebner, Paul 2024
Differences in laying hen susceptibility to the northern fowl mite Laying hens differ in their ability to combat northern fowl mites, which provides possibilities for identifying traits that can be used to breed more resistant hens. Poultry Erasmus, Marisa 2024
What's in a quack? Analyses of duck vocalizations Ducks have 19 distinctly different types of vocalizations based upon environmental and social context and these vocalizations have differential impacts on conspecific physiological responses. Poultry Fraley, Gregory S. 2024
Epigenetic impacts of heat stress on stress response Heat stress due to global climate change has negative impacts on poultry that costs millions each year, and may be transmitted to offspring thus multiplying the negative impacts on economics. Poultry Fraley, Gregory S. 2024
Sex differences of the impact of transportation on the stress response Transportation appears to have a greater impact to reduce hen welfare compared to drake. Poultry Fraley, Gregory S. 2024
Soybean hulls as an energy source to improve beef cattle reproductive performance The supplementation of 5 pounds of SBH per day immediately following fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI), and turn-out to lush spring pasture, for a 45 day breeding season improved beef replacement weight gain (P = .04) with a tendency for increased FTAI conception (P = 0.17; 64% vs. 44%) and 45-day breeding season pregnancy rates (P = 0.20; 96% vs. 84%). Beef Cattle Lemenager, Ron 2024
Lightweight pigs are surprisingly resilient to shipping stress Lightweight pigs are a growing burden within the swine industry, but not because of their response to shipping stress. Swine Pasternak, Alex 2024
Link between the gastrointestinal tract microbiome, microbial metabolism, and host response in grain-finished cattle fed low-dose antimicrobials Low dose antibiotics have a significant impact on the GIT microbiome, which could have implications for host health and feedlot cattle performance. Beef Cattle Schoonmaker, Jon 2024
Development of the Dominican Republic National Monitoring and Surveillance Program for Pesticide Residues Working in concert with the Dominican Republic Department of Food Safety, we created the National Pesticide Monitoring and Surveillance program now in use throughout the country.
