Why did you choose Purdue Food Science: The department treated me like a person, not a number.
What made your Purdue experience great?: The amazing friends that I’ve made along the way.
Favorite Purdue Tradition: Purdue Grand Prix
Favorite Purdue event: Spring Fest
Favorite spot on campus: Honors Hall
Favorite professor: Dr. Bruce Applegate
Favorite class: FS 363, Food Microbiology Lab, because I got to grow molds (in a controlled setting)
Favorite memory of your time at Purdue: Getting to meet Purdue President Mung Chiang and taking a picture with him at the Wiley Dining Court
Favorite club/organization: Food Science Club!
What other activities or organizations did you participate in while at Purdue?: Besides Food Science Club, I play bassoon/contrabassoon in Purdue’s Philharmonic Orchestra. I am an envoy for the Food Science Department, and I am a member of Cru and Ratio Christi.
Favorite social activity: Getting boba with friends at all of the boba places on campus
Favorite thing about Purdue Food Science and/or the College of Agriculture: I love how the professors genuinely care about our learning.
Places you have been as a Purdue student: I went to Berlin, Germany, for a Maymester with the Honors College between my freshman and sophomore year. I've had two summer internships with Kerry in Beloit, Wisconsin. During my junior year, I also took a trip to Fair Oaks Farm with the Food Science Club.
Biggest accomplishments at Purdue: I led a team that won first place at the Honey Product Development Competition during my junior year. 🍯🐝
Future plans after graduation: I plan on going to grad school after graduation for a MS degree.
Long term career goals: I would like to do food microbiology work, similar to what I did at Kerry
Advice for underclassmen: Networking is very important so build up your LinkedIn and practice socializing with those in your major and people in industry!
Biggest takeaway from your time at Purdue: Always be willing to challenge yourself.
