Graduate Program Coordinator

The Graduate Program Administrator will directly support the Food Science Faculty, staff, and graduate students. This position will serve as an advisor to the graduate students enrolled in the departments’ graduate degree programs which include PhD and MS in Food Science.


  • Administer both MS and PhD degree programs consistent with Graduate School policy
  • Advise on plans of study, required and elective courses, registration, career planning, and other curricular and academic matters
  • Monitoring academic progress of graduate students in coursework, preliminary and prospectus examinations, and dissertation/thesis research, and report to students, graduate director, and business office on outcomes
  • Conducting preliminary and final audits of student records for graduation
  • Maintain and update records and files for graduate students in the  department
  • Work with prospective students to ensure complete applications, coordinate prospective student site-visits and initiate/maintain on-going contact with prospective students
  • Collaborate with the head and faculty to manage, implement changes, and enhance the department’s graduate programs
  • Coordinate and manage the admissions processes for the graduate admissions committee(s)
  • Serve on committees and provide input on university policies and procedures, admissions, etc.
  • Coordinate events, conferences, graduation, orientation, etc. as they relate to the grad program
  • Administration and coordination of all aspects related to the development and implementation of the online certificate program
  • In collaboration with the Graduate Program Chair, brainstorm, develop and implement marketing strategies and communication plans for graduate activities to further grow the graduate program in Food Science
  • Direct a coordinated recruitment and marketing program for the departments graduate program through web, print, and in-person visits
  • Serve as the liaison between the business office, grad school and the Grad committee
  • Liaison between faculty and current/perspective grad student and various campus offices
  • Serve as primary contact for prospective and current graduate students
  • Prepare, process and approve all offer letters
  • Work closely with departmental Career Services position for Graduate student advancement and placement


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1 year of experience related to the university, program coordinating and/or graduate program recruiting and management
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered (Associate's degree + 3 years of experience)
  • Knowledge of university regulations
  • Ability to work independently and handle management responsibilities
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working relationships with prospective students, alumni and faculty
  • Ability to travel (domestic and international) as much as 10%


  • Knowledge of Purdue University
  • Experience with event management and implementing multiple projects to successful completion
  • Experience working in higher education, business school, corporate roles or management education
