GRADUATE STUDENT PROFILE - Gabriel Santiago Galeano-Garcia

Congratulations to Gabriel Santiago Galeano-Garcia who successfully defended his MS thesis. Gabriel is originally from Colombia where he received his bachelor's degree from Universidad Nacional de Colombia.

Gabriel's research focuses on optimizing dietary fiber mixtures to enhance gut health and investigating their effects on short-chain fatty acid production and gut microbiota modulation. Through this research, Gabriel aims to advance scientific understanding of how mechanistic insights into fiber-microbiota interactions can inform targeted dietary interventions.

Gabriel was advised by Dr. Thaisa Cantu-Jungles and Dr. Bruce Hamaker. Other members of his graduate committee included Dr. Timothy Johnson and Dr. Osvaldo Campanella

Purdue made a positive first impression on Gabriel, ultimately leading him to continue his academic career there. Gabriel explains, "I chose Purdue because, from the very first time I visited for an internship, I was fascinated by the research being conducted in this department. I had a number of top choices for where to apply, and the one I ultimately chose turned out to be ideal: from my advisor, colleagues, and new friends to the culture and the campus. I am so happy to be a Boilermaker!"

When thinking about his next giant leap, Gabriel says, "I love science, and I will let my passion for it, and for health, lead me to where I can use my knowledge for the benefit of more people. For now, I will begin a PhD in this same department."
