Graduate Student Profile - Tracy Chen
Tracy Chen successfully defended her M.S. thesis on May 22,2025. Tracy is originally from Taiwan where she received her B.S. from National Taiwan Ocean University.
Tracy's research explores using a non-thermal technology (cold plasma) as a pretreatment to enhance bioactive compounds extraction from microalgae. She also investigating the seo microalgal protein to enhance the stability of microalgae-derived phenolic compounds. Tracy's research contributed to the USDA-funded When Blue is Green (BiG) project, which aims to research and develop an environmentally sustainable and economically viable food production system using aquaponics.
Tracy's advisor was Jen-Yi Huang. Other members of her graduate committee included Andrea Liceaga and Halis Simsek.
Tracy said her decision to continue her education at Purdue Food Science was influenced by the department's strong reputation in research and discovery.
During her time at Purdue, Tracy received a couple of accolades, including a travel grant awarded by Purdue Student Government and second place in the BiG seminar poster session.
