Membership
Student membership eligibility
To be eligible for student membership in Phi Tau Sigma, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- Have completed coursework in the following core areas:
- Food Chemistry and Analysis
- Food Safety and Microbiology
- Food Processing and Engineering
- Graduate students: Must have completed at least two semesters of graduate study.
- Undergraduate students: Must be a senior.
Nomination process
To apply for membership, please complete the following steps:
- Download the nomination form.
- Complete all applicable sections of the form. Please write all descriptions in third person.
- Obtain signatures from two current Phi Tau Sigma members in support of your nomination. At least one nominator must be a faculty member.
- If you need assistance identifying eligible nominators, please contact phitausigma.purdue@gmail.com.
- Email your completed nomination form to phitausigma.purdue@gmail.com.
Membership dues
The first year of membership dues is generously covered by the Department of Food Science and Technology. (Please contact phitausigma.purdue@gmail.com, and use “First Year Membership Dues” as the email subject.)
To maintain active membership after the first year, members are responsible for paying the $25 annual membership dues. Dues can be paid online through the Phi Tau Sigma website.
