What to Expect at the PSA Grower Training
The trainers will spend approximately seven hours of instruction time covering content contained in these seven modules:
- Introduction to Produce Safety
- Worker Health, Hygiene, and Training
- Soil Amendments
- Wildlife, Domesticated Animals, and Land Use
- Agricultural Water (Part I: Production Water; Part II: Postharvest Water)
- Postharvest Handling and Sanitation
Who Should Attend
Fruit and vegetable growers and others interested in learning about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule,Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), and co-management of natural resources and food safety. The PSA Grower Training Course is one way to satisfy the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement outlined in § 112.22(c) that requires 'At least one supervisor or responsible party for your farm must have successfully completed food safety training at least equivalent to that received under standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drug Administration.' Participants will receive a course manual and certificate of course attendance.
Cost
$100 for Indiana residents, $125 for out-of-state residents
Cost includes a training certificate from the Association of Food and Drug Officials, training manual (hard copy), training materials, and cost of shipping training materials.
Technology Requirements
This is a remote training that will be delivered via Zoom. All participants will need to have access to an internet connection, speakers, a microphone, and a webcam.
Attendance Requirements
Please note that because this course is not provided "in person," a course monitor will verify participant engagement and attendance via video for this entire course. Per the requirements of the Association of Food and Drug Officials, course participants are only eligible to receive the PSA/AFDOCertificate of Course Completion if their presence during all PSA modules can be confirmed. The certificate of course completion will be issued later when proof of attendance has been verified, and all paperwork has been reviewed.
