In the midst of harvest-season, National Farmer's Day recognizes the hard work of the men, women and families who put food on our shelves and tables every day. This year, we're celebrating students in Purdue's College of Agriculture who farm and represent the future of this diverse and vital industry.

I am passionate about agricultural research because of its potential to address the pressing challenges of climate change and global warming. Through my work, I aim to develop solutions that make agriculture more resilient and sustainable in the face of environmental changes. Additionally, I focus on biofortification, striving to enhance the nutritional quality of crops to improve food security and combat malnutrition. This blend of climate awareness and commitment to better nutrition drives my dedication to making a meaningful impact in the field.
I plan to go to grad school to further pursue my interests.
Most of my farming experience has come from the Purdue Student Farm. This is my third year working there, and this season has felt as busy as ever. The Student Farm is 3.5 acres of a diverse array of vegetables that we grow for our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) customers.
My favorite crop is kohlrabi! Kohlrabi is such a fun plant because it grows in a really unexpected way, and my first time trying it was while working at the Student Farm. It's become one of my favorite vegetables to grow and eat.
In many ways, farming chose me. I care about the planet, healthy food and building communities. Learning how to sustainably cultivate the land allows me to make a positive impact on my community. That’s why I’m so passionate about sustainable farming. It’s a way to help people.
After graduation, I’m hoping to get into international work. I’d like to help farmers all around the world and from all walks of life. I’m not sure exactly what that path looks like for me yet, but international work is definitely what I’m striving for. Eventually, when I put some roots down, I hope to have my own farm too.
At home on my family's farm, we have row crops, 100 commercial meat sheep, 100 commercial meat goats, and a 180 sow segregated early weaning operation.
I really enjoy working with the sheep and goats!
Farming and working within the agricultural industry allows me to play an active role in the food chain. I am passionate about providing for local communities.
I want to help improve the industry as a whole. I cannot wait to see what the future holds and how I fit into it.
