On October 25, 2025, Peterson Company announced a recall of a variety of cheese products. This recall is due to possible Shiga toxin-producing E. coli contamination. Affected products were sold to distributors, retailers, and food businesses in Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington between July 27 and October 24, 2025. The products sold as 2.5 lb. round cheese wheels were Whatcom Blue, Farmhouse, Peppercorn, and Mustard Seed. The products sold as 5-6 oz half-moon pieces were Whatcom Blue and Farmhouse. The cheese wheels had batch codes of 250527B, 250610B, 250618B, 250624B, 250603F, 250616B, 250603P, and 250616M. The half-moon pieces were packaged in clear plastic wrap and have the manufacturing codes jet printed onto the packaging or affixed with a tan-to-orange sticker. The affected manufacturing codes were 793511, 781511, 775511, 761511, 765511, 752511, 738511, and 726511.

Shiga toxin-producing E. coli can cause symptoms such as bloody diarrhea, severe stomach cramps, and vomiting in healthy persons and can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems.

To date, three illnesses have been reported in relation to this issue. Production of the products has been halted, but consumers may still have them in their homes. Consumers who have the affected products should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund, as well as clean and sanitize any surfaces the products have touched. For any questions or concerns, consumers may contact 360-656-5240, Tuesday - Saturday 11:00 am - 5:00 pm PT.
