FNR Graduate Flowchart - Masters Degree
Assumes four semester graduation timeline
General Requirements:
- 24 hours of graded course credits
- 6 research credit hours
- FNR Graduate Program Coordinator, Advisory Committee, & Department Head as well as the Graduate School must approve coursework via Plan of Study
- Present research at conference/ workshop
- Produce extension/outreach deliverable
- Publish journal article(s) (encouraged)
Before Semester 1:
- Establish contact with Faculty Advisor & Graduate Program Coordinator
- Register for Semester 1 courses
- Attend orientations
- Complete training & certifications for Purdue & FNR
Semester 1:
- GRAD 61200 Responsible Conduct of Research
- FNR 59000 Intro to Teaching in Natural Resources
- FNR 50600 Theory & Application of Natural Resources Extension Programming (if spring)
- Choose Committee members
Semester 2:
- FNR 50600 Theory & Application of Natural Resources Extension Programming (if spring)
- Meet with Advisory Committee
- Proposal and Proposal Evaluation Form Due
- Plan of Study Due (myPurdue form)
Semester 3:
- Meet with Advisory Committee
- Determine Thesis defense timeframe
- Draft Thesis
- Email Dissertation/Thesis Office concerning formatting
Semester 4 (final semester):
- CAND 99100 or 99200
- Schedule Defense and Create Flyer
- Submit Thesis to Advisory Committee
- Defend Thesis (final exam)
- Deposit Thesis
- Complete Candidacy Tasks
GRADUATE!

Extended Semesters:
- Funding may be extended depending on source and if making satisfactory progress toward degree, dependent on approval from the Graduate Committee.
- MS program from admission to completing the final exam cannot be more than five calendar years. Extensions may be granted with justification from Advisory Committee.
