Description:  

 • Serves as the regional subject matter expert on nongame aquatic species within the
region.
• Supports statewide mollusk, crayfish and rare fish protection programs in field
surveys, collections, and rare species data collection efforts.
• Conducts environmental reviews for external partner agencies and private industry
to avoid or minimize impacts to rare fish and wildlife species or other significant
aquatic or agency resources.
• Provides guidance and support to TWRA field divisions to ensure compliance with
Federal Endangered Species Act, related permitting and other state and local
regulations.
• Conducts Fishkill Investigations and impact valuations in response to pollution
events.
• Conducts species sweeps and relocation of rare aquatic organisms prior to project
implementation for both internal and partner agency projects.
• Participates as a member of the TWRA Unified Dive Team. 

 

 

Compensation & Benefits:  

 Salary Range: $70,812 - $109,992 

 

 

Responsibilities:  

 • Ability to conduct surveys for aquatic species across varying habitat and taxa
groups and sampling methods, such as snorkeling, electrofishing, seining, et al.
• Familiarity with state and federal permitting processes as they relate to water
resource impacts.
• Ability to field ID freshwater mussels, crayfish and non-game fish.
• Ability to tow, launch and operate watercraft of various types.
• Must be able to operate independently in harsh conditions, remote terrain and
respond to urgent pollution concerns. 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

 Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management, wildlife biology, or other related acceptable field and experience equivalent to two years of full-time professional wildlife resources work; additional graduate coursework in wildlife
management or other related acceptable field may be substituted for the required
experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of one year.
