For the past year, I have had the opportunity to lead my first research project. The idea for “Food Safety Knowledge and Perception of Young Adults with Shared-Use Kitchens” developed from what I have seen and experienced in shared-use kitchens in college. The study aims to identify the issues of food safety. A campus-wide survey was sent to every undergraduate and graduate student at Purdue University which allowed for a mix of demographics for young adults. I found that in addition to lack of knowledge and confidence, lack of confidence in their roommates and difficulty in communication played a significant role.
