October 29th, Dole Fresh Recall

On October 29th, 2021, Dole Fresh Vegetables, Inc. announced a voluntary recall for several cases of garden salad resulting from a possible health risk of Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses linked to the cases have been reported, but the recall stems from a single sample of garden salad testing positive in a random sampling performed by the Department of Agriculture in Georgia. Impacted products were distributed to AL, FL, GA, LA, MA, MD, NC, PA, SC, and VA, and should no longer be on retail shelves, as the expiration date of the product was 10/25/2021.

Products are identifiable by the lot number and best by date in the top right of the bag, and the UPC code in the lower left of the bag. Products being recalled include 24 oz Dole Garden Salad, 24 oz Marketside Classic Salad, 12 oz Kroger Brand Garden Salad, and 12 oz Salad Classics Garden Salad. Listeria monocytogenes infections can cause serious or sometimes fatal effects in young children, frail, the elderly, and pregnant women as well as those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may expect short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infections can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

Dole is advising consumers who may have purchased these products to discard it, and retailers and consumers are encouraged to reach out to the Dole Consumer Center at 1-800-356-3111 at any time if they have questions.
