Sharing Human Factors Research on Food Safety at the IAFP Annual Conference
From July 27–30, the Food Safety Human Factor Lab in the Department of Food Science participated in the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) annual meeting in Cleveland, Ohio. The conference brought together food safety professionals from around the world and provided an excellent platform for the lab to share its latest research on human factors in food safety.
The team delivered three technical presentations on topics such as the evolution of food safety management in the California almond industry, consumer attention to flour safety messages using eye-tracking, and the effectiveness of different framing strategies for flour safety labels. Moreover, the lab presented four research posters, highlighting projects on consumer trust in food safety after watching thea documentary “Poisoned”, the meaning of “ready-to-eat” across the supply chain, ChatGPT’s reliability in answering consumers’ food safety questions, and the risks of pathogen contamination in aquaponics systems.
The meeting was a wonderful opportunity for the team to showcase their work, engage with colleagues, and strengthen connections within the global food safety community!
