Purdue ANSC celebrates its 2025 Outstanding Undergraduate Students

The Purdue Animal Sciences Department hosted an event to celebrate its 2025 Outstanding Students on April 8. Read more about each awardee below:

Freshman

Alejandra Garavito

Concentration: Pre-Veterinary Medicine

Hometown: Burke, Virginia

An Animal Sciences degree represents opportunity. It represents the opportunity of receiving a higher education with a passionate faculty. It represents the opportunity to meet diverse people who care about advancing Animal Sciences. It represents the opportunity to achieve world-readiness through research, industry extension, and departmental internships. Most importantly, this degree represents the investment that both the student and department put in in order to get us one step closer to achieving our aspirations.

Sophomore

Emma Bailey

Concentration: Pre-Veterinary Medicine

Hometown: Markle, Indiana

Purdue Animal Sciences has challenged me to push myself both personally and professionally. Through the events, clubs, and mentors I have found many opportunities. I have been able to grow my leadership skills significantly through activities recommended by Animal Sciences staff and professors. By having such amazing peers and mentors in the department, I have always felt supported to try new things and put myself out there.

Concentration: Biosciences

Hometown: Springville, Indiana

By taking on leadership opportunities provided to me by Purdue Animal Sciences, I was able to discover my passion and solidify my goals. These roles helped me take on more responsibility and grow through mentorship, while also providing the chance to challenge myself and develop professionally. The faculty and staff were always supportive—even when my goals were ambitious—and they pushed me to exceed my limits. Their encouragement gave me the clarity and confidence to pursue my future in Animal Sciences.

Hometown: North Webster, Indiana

I chose a degree in Animal Sciences because the curricular and extracurricular opportunities afforded to me are unparalleled in other degree programs. My Animal Sciences degree is both diverse and specialized, providing a well-rounded degree with a wide variety of viable career paths I can pursue. Throughout my time in the program, I have always felt like more than a number – Purdue Animal Sciences makes it a goal to support students every step of their college career.
