Fei Earns 2020 Agricultural Research Award

Dr. Songlin Fei, professor of quantitative ecology, has been named as the 2020 recipient of the Purdue Agricultural Research Award, which is given to faculty members for excellence in applying scientific principles to solve important research problems.

Recipients must have less than 18 years of experience beyond their PhD and, through their research, made significant contributions to agriculture, natural resources and the quality of life of Indiana citizens.

Fei is the third member of the FNR faculty to receive the honor. He is being recognized for his research into critical ecological problems and leadership of the integrated digital forestry initiative.

Marisol Sepulveda, professor of ecology and natural systems and associate head of research was honored in 2018 for her research examining the non-lethal effects of contaminants in the environment. Dr. J. Andrew DeWoody, professor of genetics, was honored in 2011 for his contributions to the field of ecological and evolutionary genetics. The award has been presented annually since 1982.

Winners of the Ag Research Award receive a plaque, a $1,500 honorarium funded by earnings in the Charles Guthrie Patterson Memorial Endowment and Matthew Morgan Hamilton funds, and $10,000 for the recipient’s research program.

Fei will formally be honored at a ceremony in the fall.
