Alpine Adventures in Agriculture

Two of our Agricultural Economics students joined 20 other Boilermakers and participated in the Maymester Alpine Adventures in Agriculture Study Abroad Program. The students spent 10 days exploring agriculture in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Top highlights of the trip included a tour of he Horsch-Leep Plant in Landau, Germany; a stop at the Lamplhof Farm (farm-to-table beef farm and meat retail store) near Bavaria, Germany; the visit at Drexel Orchard and Distillery in Innsbruck, Austria; and the presentation at Agroscope, Swiss Institute for Agricultural Research in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Kylie Bedel (Rising Senior; Agribusiness; Evansville, IN) stated, “Traveling to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland was such a fun and rewarding experience. Seeing how farms operate compared to the United States is extremely eye opening and informative. Traveling within and on top of the Alpine Mountains showed the exquisite landscape and breathtaking views. Throughout this trip, I created life long memories and started new friendships.”

Noah Berning (Graduating Senior; Agricultural Economics; Monroeville, IN) added, “On our trip to Europe we were able to partake in a deep dive in four different countries, getting to see the unique aspects of various types of agriculture from livestock to machinery to research and beyond! This trip opened my eyes to a new perspective of the global agriculture industry, and also allowed me to go on my dream trip!”
