Following in the footsteps of family
Name: Annie Schuler
Hometown: Roann, IN
Major: Agribusiness (Marketing concentration)
Minor: Crop Science and Farm Management
Why did you come to Purdue: I followed in the footsteps of my parents and three older siblings—Purdue already felt like home. I put all my eggs in one basket, and it was the only school I applied to.
Favorite Purdue tradition: Sledding down Slayter Hill after the first big snowfall, using anything except a sled

Top three influences at Purdue:
- Delta Gamma Sorority
- NAMA (National Agri-Marketing Association)
- Professors and advisors who genuinely care about my future and success
- Experiencing the solar eclipse and watching Purdue in the National Championship, all in the same day
- Spontaneously jumping into the pond by the Bell Tower with friends late at night
- Being a TA for AGEC 331 for Dr. Downey and Amy Cochran
- Getting rebaptized after the UniteU’s movement that came to campus—one memory I will never forget
- Spending time with friends and family at Harry’s Chocolate Shop
Five places you have been as a Purdue student:
- Marseille & Montpellier, France - Spring break visiting a sorority sister who was studying abroad
- St. Louis, Missouri - NAMA Competition
- Kansas City, Missouri - NAMA Competition
- Champaign, Illinois - Internship with Bayer Crop Science
- Washington, DC - Farm Credit Mid-America Scholarship Program

Favorite club/organization: NAMA
Favorite student-led event/initiative: Rising Professionals
Favorite Purdue event: Grand Prix
Favorite place to study: WALC silent study room
Favorite thing about CoA: Coming from a small high school, I’ve really valued the College of Ag’s smaller class sizes—they’ve helped me build strong connections with the professors and great friendships with my peers.
Favorite class: AGEC 331: Principles of Selling in Agricultural Business
Favorite professor: Dr. Lee Schweitzer
Class you are excited to take your senior year: FS 470: Wine Appreciation

Three biggest accomplishments at Purdue:
- Placing 1st in the nation at the NAMA competition my sophomore year
- Serving in an executive position in my sorority
- Will graduate college debt-free, having paid tuition and housing entirely on my own through scholarships
Something about you that is not listed on your resume: When I was 14, I earned my pesticide applicator license after my dad told me, “Every farmer’s daughter should have hers.” I am still certified to this day.
Future plans: Finding a career in agriculture that I love and that continually keeps me learning
Advice for underclassmen: College is truly what you make of it—you can keep it small or make it something big, but in the end, the experience is entirely up to you.
The biggest takeaway from Purdue: Purdue is meant to challenge you and help you grow. Make the most of the short time you’re given and embrace every opportunity that comes your way.
