Pasture, Porch Talks & Purdue Pride
Name: Isaiah Eisert
Hometown: Goshen, Indiana
Major & concentration: Applied Agricultural Economics; Farm Management and Animal Science Minor; Applications in Data Science Certificate
Why did you come to Purdue: I found my passion for dairy and agriculture at a job in high school and had the opportunity to attend one of the best Ag Econ programs in the country at a great price; the choice made itself.
Favorite Purdue tradition: Beating IU
Top three influences at Purdue:
- Incredible professors with lots of knowledge and experience
- External Experiences - internships, conferences and Dairy Challenge
- The whole Cooperative Living system
- Late nights on the porch at Chauncey, enjoying the weather with some of my best friends
- Late nights and early mornings at the Purdue Dairy, getting cows ready for events
- Handing out the milk to the winner of the 68th Grand Prix Race
- Celebrating making it to the National Championship Game
- Studying abroad in Ireland
Places you have been as a Purdue student:
- Ireland for Spring Break Study Abroad
- Gainesville, FL and Brookings, SD, for Dairy Challenge competitions
- Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa during my internship at Merck Animal Health
- California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho during my internship with Genex Cooperative
- Baltimore, Maryland, for a dairy judging practice
Favorite club/organization: Purdue Dairy Club
Favorite student-led event/initiative: Ag Week/Milk Monday
Favorite Purdue event: Grand Prix Week
Favorite place to study: The second floor of Creighton
Favorite thing about CoA: Everyone is probably your friend or a simple conversation away from becoming one
Favorite class: ANSC 485, Dr. Boerman
Favorite professor: Dr. Roman Keeney
Class you are excited to take your senior year: AGEC 411
Three biggest accomplishments at Purdue:
- Becoming President of Chauncey Cooperative
- Making Dean’s List every semester
- Serving as a Dairy Club officer for three years and helping revitalize the club in that time
Something about you that is not listed on your resume: Thanks to my time spent working around dairies, I have developed a decent proficiency in Spanish, despite never taking a formal Spanish class.
Future plans: Work from a herd manager role up to hopefully managing and buying a partnership in a large commercial dairy operation.
Advice for underclassmen: Work hard and say yes. College is an experience that is up to you, so it would be money best spent if you got involved and developed knowledge, experience and your network. There are endless opportunities to do so on this campus, including taking internships.
The biggest takeaway from Purdue: You need to enjoy life’s moments and the people around you. You won’t always be amid them, so it is best you make those memories and hold onto them so you can cherish them later. This also means you need to push yourself in order to find yourself in memorable situations.
