Arrington Krull Headshot

Building friendships and skills

Name: Arrington Krull

Hometown: Milford, IN

Major: Farm Management

Minors: Crop Science, Political Science

Why did you come to Purdue: I chose Purdue because of the programs and opportunities that the College of Agriculture has to offer. I also loved the campus environment and the faculty that is willing to help with anything.

Favorite Purdue tradition: The Ag Council Midnight Pancake Breakfast during Grand Prix week. It’s a great event for the Grand Prix week. Games of cornhole, bouncy house races and, of course, all you can eat pancakes!

Top three influences at Purdue:

  1. Sigma Alpha Professional Agricultural Society
  2. The College of Agriculture study abroad program
  3. My academic advisor, Chrissie Strong
Top five memories of your time at Purdue:
  1. Traveling to Brazil, Costa Rica and France to study abroad
    • Brazil: going swimming at midnight at the Copa Cabana Beach in Rio, then waking up early to see the sunrise at the beach.
    • Costa Rica: going snorkeling at a local reef during the day, then going back at night to swim in bioluminescent waters.
    • France: seeing Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower, then seeing it light up and sparkle at midnight.
  2. Hanging out with my friends and going on Culver’s runs
  3. Spending time in the Crop Resources Center, either studying, chatting or just passing through between classes
  4. Sledding down Slayter Hill using a deflated air mattress, box lids and a disk sled. It was so much fun to watch and go down the hill
  5. Attending all of the Purdue Basketball games I could get tickets to. My favorite games were Purdue vs IU and Purdue vs Northwestern

Five places you have been as a Purdue student:

  1. Brazil for a study abroad about Brazilian agriculture and culture
  2. Costa Rica for a study abroad about their natural resources and conservation efforts
  3. Kansas City for the Agriculture Futures of America Leaders Conference for four years in a row (I would highly recommend going!)
  4. France for a study abroad about food and culture (France has some of the best food, pastries and drinks I have ever had.)
  5. Minnesota for an internship with Gowan Co. as a sales intern. It was one of the best internships I have had, because I got the chance to do everything from sales to communication.

 Arrington at a sorority formal

Favorite club/organization: Sigma Alpha Sorority - This sorority allowed me to make lifelong friends that I’m fortunate enough to call sisters. It has also given me the chance to grow professionally through career fairs, alumni speakers and mentorships.

Favorite student-led event/initiative: The Ag Olympics and hog roast. This is always a good time to hang out and cheer for your team. It’s a great time to get together as a college and do silly games and challenges.

Favorite Purdue event: Basketball games, especially the Purdue vs IU game. Nothing beats the roar of the crowd during a big game in Mackey Arena.

Favorite place to study: My favorite place to study is the Crop Resource Center. It’s not too quiet, but just loud enough to focus.

Favorite thing about CoA: The people. I have met some of my closest friends and have made a thousand connections because of the College of Agriculture. Also, getting the opportunity to learn and grow, not only professionally but also personally. It was important to me to grow in both, which led me to be a better student and person at the same time.

Favorite class: AGRY 375 Crop Production Systems with Dr. Schweitzer - It was a great class to learn about crop production and the different aspects that impact it. Also, the exam review days were fun because Dr. Schweitzer brings in donuts.

Favorite professor(s): Dr. Delgado and Dr. Schweitzer - They are both amazing professors who love to teach and help their students. Both subjects were a lot of fun to learn about. This is definitely due to the hard work that they put into the class and the students.

Class you are excited to take your senior year: AGEC 455 Agriculture Law - When I came to Purdue, I was aware of some of the issues that the agricultural community was facing in policy. I wanted to learn more about policy because of that initial interest. So, I signed up for some intro to policy classes, which helped me find a passion I didn’t know I had. This class in particular is a mix of two of my passions, and I can’t wait to learn more.

Arrington in Brazil

Three biggest accomplishments at Purdue:

  1. Working with the Indiana Farm Bureau policy team as an intern in the spring of 2024
  2. Helping Purdue’s Sigma Alpha chapter through restructuring bylaws and surveying as the bylaws chair
  3. Traveling abroad to three different countries to learn about agriculture, conservation and culture (I hope to go on one more study abroad!)

Something about you that is not listed on your resume: My SAE in FFA was small-scale goat meat production. I got the chance to work with a local Indian restaurant owner because of it.

Future plans: I plan on going to law school and then working in the agriculture industry in policy or law.

Advice for underclassmen: Don’t forget to laugh. These four years are stressful. Make sure to step back and laugh for a bit. Also, study abroad if you can just once. It is an amazing experience!

The biggest takeaway from Purdue: As cheesy as it sounds, these four years are going to go by in a flash. So, do the silly things, take that chance on that internship and, most of all, find your people.
