Laying down a solid brick foundation

Name: Wil Rohrbach

Hometown: Fort Wayne, IN

Why did you come to Purdue: The name brand of Purdue University as a whole and the affordability that came with it. I also grew up a Purdue Basketball fan, which definitely influenced my decision.

Favorite Purdue tradition: The Purdue Grand Prix!

Top three influences at Purdue:

  1. Dr. Martia King at SAO for helping and guiding my experience as a student leader in a student organization
  2. Andy Oppy for helping guide me through my major change and always being awesome
  3. All the friends that I have made while being here at Purdue
Top five memories of your time at Purdue:
  1. 1. The Brick Ceremony at the Purdue Grand Prix track - installing an Indianapolis Speedway Brick at the track
    2. The 68th Purdue Grand Prix where I was the President of the foundation and was able to meet some really cool people (Doug Boles, Tony Kanaan and Angela Ashmore)
    3. The men’s basketball team going to the national championships
    4. Going to any game at Mackey Arena
    5. Late night hangouts with all my friends

Five places you have been as a Purdue student: In all honesty I have not really traveled much as a Purdue Student some of the places I have been while going to Purdue include:

  1. My freshman year going to the Wisconsin - Purdue Football game in Madison
  2. Spending a couple weeks over in the Philippines to visit family
  3. Going down to South Padre Island for spring break
  4. Going to Nationals in FFA my freshman year

Three biggest accomplishments at Purdue:

  1. Being President of the Purdue Grand Prix Foundation - overseeing some of the major changes and giving out scholarships to students
  2. Switching majors and improving my GPA every semester after
  3. Completing my first half marathon at the Purdue Half Marathon

Something about you that is not listed on your resume: I am a dual citizen between the United States and the Philippines

Future plans: I would like to go into marketing consulting and have a business on the side.

Advice for underclassmen: I would say to get over involved and to not just get involved with clubs in the College of Agriculture. I would recommend being a part of a couple clubs in the college of Agriculture and then one or two outside so that you meet more people and expand your network of both friends and professional connections.

The biggest takeaway from Purdue: Purdue and college in general is what you make of it. Being involved may seem a bit stressful at first, but it’s worth it for all the memories and friends that you make. Purdue will always be a home away from home, especially as I come back for all the great alumni and sporting events!
